We had another wonderful Letchworth Comedy Workshop on 25th September — yes, the last Friday of the month, otherwise known as the best Friday of the month! πŸ˜‚ We will be on the ground floor in the large meeting room.

Mrs Howard Memorial Hall is Norton Way South, Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, SG6 1NX.

If you're new and haven't had a taster session yet, your first workshop is FREE, so please come along and give it a try. We’d love to have you.

We tried, we tested, we laughed, we ate snacks and we ultimately endeavoured to tell a witty story. And judging by the laughter, we’re definitely heading in the right direction! πŸ˜‚

September we worked on misdirection, along with pausing and timing — learning when to button up, wait for the laugh and, most importantly, drop the punchline at the right moment!

🎀 Letchworth Comedy Workshop – FAQs πŸ˜‚

What is Letchworth Comedy Workshop?
We’re a friendly group of people learning comedy together. We explore how comedy works, try different techniques, write, experiment and, most importantly, have a laugh together.

Do I need to be a comedian?
Not at all! You don’t need any comedy or performing experience. You can be a complete beginner.

What do you actually do at the workshops?
A bit of everything! We work on comedy writing, joke techniques, storytelling, improvisation, stage positioning, timing, pausing, microphone skills and stage presence. Each workshop gives you opportunities to try things out in a relaxed environment.

Do I have to perform stand-up?
No. This is about learning comedy, not forcing anyone onto a stage. You can take part at a level that feels comfortable for you.

Is it only about stand-up comedy?
No. Comedy is much bigger than stand-up! We explore writing, storytelling, improvisation, delivery and different ways of creating humour.

What comedy techniques will I learn?
We explore techniques such as the Rule of Three, misdirection, exaggeration, timing, pauses, punchlines and storytelling. We revisit techniques too, because comedy takes practice.

What if I'm shy or nervous?
You’ll be very welcome. We’re a friendly, supportive group, and there’s no pressure to be the loudest or funniest person in the room. Come along, settle in and join in at your own pace.

Will I get anything to take home?
Yes! πŸ“ You’ll receive your own workshop folder for your notes, activities and comedy-writing exercises, so you can keep building on what you learn.

Are there practical activities?
Definitely. We don’t just sit and talk about comedy. We write, practise, experiment, improvise and try techniques out together.

Will there be snacks?
Of course! πŸ˜‚ Snacks are part of the creative process. πŸͺ☕ We  social break too, so there’s time to chat and get to know everyone.

When do you meet?
πŸ“… We usually meet on the last Friday of the month.
⏰ From now on, workshops start at 6:30 PM.

How long is the workshop?
We currently run from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

Can I try it before committing?
Yes. If you’re new and haven’t attended a taster before, you can come along and try your first workshop FREE. Come and see whether it’s for you.

How much are future workshops?
After your free taster, workshops are £30 per session.

Do I have to come every month?
No. We’d love to see you regularly because the skills build over time, but we understand that people have other commitments.

What should I bring?
Just bring yourself, your ideas and a willingness to have a go. We’ll provide the activities and learning materials.

What kind of atmosphere is it?

Friendly, relaxed and supportive. There’s no competition and no expectation that you have to prove how funny you are. We’re learning together and laughing together.

Where do I go when I arrive?
Look for the blue door! πŸ”΅πŸšͺ
